Can you take too much CBD oil and feel weird? Well, it is relatively safe but you have to remember that every product does get absorbed by the body no matter what quantity. You should speak to your doctor to a) determine whether or not CBD oil is right for you, b) know your doses depending on body weight, c) other precautions and d) side effects.
Can You Take Too Much CBD And Overdose?

However, one research from 2019 showed mice reacting as there is potential for liver damage with excess CBD and its interactions with other medications.
- It can be tough to figure out how much CBD you should take, as CBD isn’t regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2020. This means that it’s up to you to make sure that you’re only using high-quality products. Always purchase products from a reputable brand with third-party testing, and avoid companies that have a history of inaccurate labeling. It also means that there are no official recommended dosages.
How To Avoid An Overdose of CBD:
Although humans have a high tolerance for pure CBD oil, potential side effects are not worth enduring. These side effects include:

Keep in mind, she explains, that every body type and endurance is different, meaning you might respond better to a higher dosage than someone else will, or vice versa.
Keeping this in mind, Janet Rosendahl Sweeney of the Phoenix Tears Foundation, which is an organization devoted to cannabis education, advices that it’s best to start slow with CBD oil and work your way up from half of a dropper, to a full dropper, to one dropper and a half, etc. Topically, though, Winter says you have the green light to apply as liberally as you’d like because, again, it’s not making it into your bloodstream that way.
Another thing to be wary of if you take too much CBD comes from a research review published in the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research says the safety profile of CBD oil generally checks out, the study also notes that researchers have yet to come to a conclusion over whether or not CBD oil can affect your hormones. This can be a problem, especially when you consider that CBD oil isn’t regulated by the FDA right now, which means the quality, strength, and consistency of these products vary, Glatter says.
So you really have to do extensive research on both the product you’re looking to use, and who the distributor is.
Figuring out the right amount for you:
The amount of CBD you should take depends on a range of factors such as :
- your body weight
- the condition you’re treating
- your individual body chemistry
- the concentration of CBD in each gummy, pill, or drop.
One of the most significant factors determining your ideal dosage is your body weight. If you don’t weigh very much, you will likely require a significantly smaller dose than someone who weighs more.
For instance, if a person weighs 125 lbs, he/she will typically require around 30 percent less CBD per dose than someone who weighs 200 lbs. This varies from condition to condition and will be discussed in more detail later.
The concentration of CBD in the product you’re using is important. For instance, if you’re using gummies, which contain 10 mg of CBD each, you’ll need fewer to feel the gummies’ effects than if you were using 5 mg gummies.
In other words, there are a lot of variables that go into determining how much CBD to take. Before trying CBD, always talk to your doctor about an appropriate dosage and any potential risks.
If your doctor doesn’t provide a recommendation, it’s best to start with a smaller dosage and gradually increase it slowly until you reach your desired effect. Going gradual means beginning with 20 to 40 mg a day. After a week, you can up this amount by 5 mg and keep going till you’ve reached a dosage where your symptoms are reduced.
For instance, if you start off with 40 mg to treat severe pain, take 40 mg on days when you’re in a lot of pain. After a week, you can go up it to 45 mg, and after a second week, you use 50 mg. At this point, you might feel that your pain is tolerable.
Always keep track of how much CBD you’re taking and whether your symptoms are getting better. Write it down on paper or on your phone.
How to calculate dosage:
Your ideal dosage of CBD also depends on a lot of factors, like your body weight, body chemistry, the condition you’re treating, and the concentration of CBD in the product you’re using.
Certain CBD products, such as gummies, capsules, or pills, tell you how much is in a single serving. For example, the packaging on a bottle of CBD capsules should indicate that there are 5 mg of CBD per capsule.
When using CBD oil, it’ll likely come in a dropper bottle. The packaging might specify how much CBD is in a single drop and from there, you can get in touch with a doctor to or with the help of the packaging instruction, figure out how many drops to use.
Sometimes it’s harder to figure out how much CBD is in one drop because the packaging says the total amount of CBD in the entire bottle, but not the amount that will be in a single drop.
One drop is about 0.05 milliliters (mL). That is, not a full dropper — just a single drop.
This means that a 10-mL bottle of CBD oil consists of 200 drops. And if the packaging for that 10-mL bottle notes that the bottle contains 1,000 mg of CBD, each drop will contain about 5 mg of CBD.
So, to have 20 mg of that type of CBD oil, your intake is four drops.
