Throughout the show’s first season, Amy met Dr. Proctor’s goals and lost enough weight to undergo weight loss surgery. Tammy, who weighed moreover than her sister, was unable to meet Dr. Proctor’s goals. When season 2 ended, Amy was able to share her weight loss with her family. Meanwhile, Tammy was still working with Dr. Proctor towards her weight loss goal.

Season 2 resumes amid the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). During the pandemic, Tammy struggled to meet Dr. Proctor’s goals. Now, Tammy is now working with another bariatric surgeon nearer their Kentucky home. Another big development in the second season was Amy Slaton’s sister’s relationship with her boyfriend, Jerry Sykes. Additionally, admirers discovered Amy’s pregnancy with her husband, Michael.

2. A Youtuber turned reality star:

As she gained followers online for her eccentric and hilarious YouTube videos, Amy Slaton starred in TLC’s recent documentary series 1000 lb Sisters alongside her older sister Tammy Slaton. Did you know? There is only a year’s age gap between the two sisters! 

She launched her channel six years ago and has posted hundreds of compelling videos, ranging from simple makeup tutorials to charming home videos to putting her on the phone with her sister Tammy. 

Slaton’s most popular video, a tutorial titled The Power of Makeup, was released five years ago and has been viewed over 7.6 million times.

Amy and Tammy once went viral after they did the ‘chubby bunny’ challenge in 2014, stuffing marshmallow after marshmallow to their mouths while trying to say ‘chubby bunny’. 

For this gimmick, no chewing or swallowing was allowed and the fans loved their new YouTube sensation! 

When it comes to social media, Slaton isn’t just on YouTube; she also has a public Instagram account and a Twitter account full of selfies and daydreams.

3. The 1000lb Sisters show debuted on New Year’s Day 2020:

The Kentucky-based Slaton sisters’ weight loss journey was broadcast to find out if they lose enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery.

Over the course of six emotional episodes, Amy and Tammy walked through doctor’s appointments, made fantastic memes for the internet, discussed the challenge of healthy eating, and showed us personal drama, leading to the big reveal: whether or not Amy and Tammy qualified for the surgery.

4. Amy Slaton weight combined with her sister’s led to the name of their show: 

At the start of her trip, Slaton tipped the scales at 406 pounds. Meanwhile, her sister Tammy stood at 605 pounds – hence the show’s catchy name.

5. Ever wondered how overeating became a problem with Amy Slaton?

Amy said she was a normal weight when she was younger and didn’t start gaining weight until after her grandmother passed away when she was around 10 years old. “My mom worked two to three jobs at a time, and my grandmother was basically our mom,” Amy said. “When she died, our whole world changed.

Left on their own, the two sisters who didn’t have their mom or siblings around took to quick packaged foods like frozen pizza and ramen noodles as they didn’t know how to cook much, setting up a cycle of unhealthy diet that got worse over the years.

“This is what we ate to survive, and this stuff is not good for you,” her sister Tammy said. “Depression and just trying to live it all caught up with us.

6. She is married and now has a son:

Amy first crossed paths with her now husband, Michael Halterman, at high school in Dixon, Ky and the two dated for years before they tied the knot in 2019 in Nashville. Fans of the show know that the couple’s desire to have a baby together was one of her biggest motivations for trying to lose weight.

In episode two, Slaton tells Atlanta-based weight loss doctor Dr. Charles Procter, “I have asthma, I have thyroid, I have diabetes. I want to have a baby and I think my weight is preventing me from having a baby.

“So that’s your motivation, you want to have a baby. You want to get pregnant, ”says Dr. Procter.

She admits that she’s also scared of ending up like her sister, pointing fingers at her as she speaks, “That and I just want to be healthy and not like her to tell you the truth. I will not lie to you”. 

Fortunately  in 2021, Amy’s pregnancy with her husband, Michael and towards the end of Season 2, she gave birth to her son Gage. If a season 3 comes up then it is likely that viewers can expect both Amy and Tammy back, as well as Amy’s son, Gage.

7. Michael Halterman and Amy eloped, so TLC faked their marriage once again:

Amy’s actual first marriage was a runaway, so Slaton and Halterman decided to have a second wedding for TLC, with the show depicting Amy shopping for wedding dresses.

“I’m really scared to try on this wedding dress right now, ” she said on the show. “The other day, I went shopping for wedding dresses, and it was a little disheartening that none of the dresses felt right to me. So I decided to order a wedding dress online, but I’m scared because you don’t even know if it will fit you”.

9. Amy Slaton was arrested in 2010:

In a video posted to her YouTube channel in 2017, Amy revealed to her fans that she has already been arrested. ‘You know I did stupid things when I was younger,’ she says, adding, ‘Please don’t do the stupid things that I have done for a living.’

Amy confessed that she would shoplift during a difficult time in her life. “I had recently quit my job. My grandfather died, so everything was going wrong for me. And I really wanted this book, and I was like, “Well, I’m going to try to steal it,” she said. “ So I put it in my purse, and when I walked out of Walmart, it beeped’. 

“The person came to me. He [said] “Did you steal anything?” And I’m like, “No. You can check my bag, blah, blah ”… So he checked, and he said,“ There’s a book here. Did you pay for it? “

After checking the security footage, the cops were called and Slaton was not only fined $ 400, but was also banned from Walmart for TWO whole years! 

“I don’t think my past should be a problem,” she said, adding, “I wasn’t trying to hide it from people or something like that. I always learned from my mistakes, and it was a big mistake. I will never do it again.

10. The Slaton sisters said something very profound about eating healthy in America:

The Slaton sisters cut out sugar from their diet, choosing low-carb, high-protein meals along with exercises like dancing and long walks. However, both Amy and Tammy reportedly said healthy eating costs more, and therefore much more difficult.

“It’s always a battle…I wish restaurants had more healthier options, and it would help if healthier food was cheaper”

“Yeah, that’s pretty bad,” Amy added. “You go to McDonald’s and you can get a cheeseburger for a dollar, but a salad costs about five.

11. The season finale was a heartbreaker, but life goes on:

While the show is likely a big earner for TLC, the ending clearly struck a chord as there are still lots to catch up on for fans for more weight loss opportunities. 

After months of dieting and healthier choices, on the sixth episode and season finale of 1000lb Sisters, Amy finds out that she is eligible for weight loss surgery, while her sister wasn’t.

But the chances are that TLC is just as eager as fans to get the show back on the air as we will discover new factors that come into play as the girls make another push for their health goals!
