Introduction

Sami Zayn is a professional wrestler based on Canada. At present he is signed to WWE where he wrestles under the SMACK DOWN brand and is also a member of THE BLOODLINE (a professional wrestling stable which is led by Roman Reigns, another professional wrestler of WWE).

Early Life

Rami Sebei was born on 12th July in the year 1984 in Laval which is a city in Quebec, Canada. He is a Canadian Professional Wrestler and performs under the ring name Sami Zayn. Both of his parents were immigrated to Canada from Homs, which is a city in western Syria, in 1970s.

Professional Career

Sami Zayn professionally debuted his wrestling career on 1st march in the year 2002 for the FLQ promotion in Quebec as Stevie McFly. At that time, he was trained under Jerry Tuite and Savio Vega. In the following year Sami made his debut in IWS (international wrestling syndicate) with a new ring name El Generico.

In the year 2004, members of the IWS started to appear in Pro Wrestling Guerilla (PWG) and Sami won the PWG World Tag Team Championship five times.

Sami took part in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based promotion Chikara first time in the year 2005, on February 19. Along with Kevin Steen he made it to the quarterfinals but was defeated. After that he made appearance four more times but got his hands on the victory for only once in the year 2011.

He wrestled for Ring of Honor (ROH) from the year 2005 to 2012. He got his first win against his fellow wrestler from IWS Kevin Steen at The Homecoming, but the match didn’t make to the event’s DVD for some unknown reason. In the year 2007, Sami Zayn made a permanent team with his fellow alumnus Kevin Steen. After so many losses Zayn and Steen finally won the Ring of Honor Tag Team Championship on September 19, in the year 2008 by beating The Age of the Fall at Driven. On 19th December, 2009, at Final Battle 2009, Kevin Steen attacked after the loss to The Young Bucks After that the two of them started to fight against each other by forming up teams with other wrestlers. After defeating each other in different matches, they ended their year-long feud on December 18 at Final Battle 2010. On December 16,2012 Final Battle 2012: Doomsday Sami Zayn made his last appearance with Ring of Honor before signed with WWE.

After passing all kinds of medical tests, in January in the year 2013, Sami Zayn signed with WWE. He made his debut with WWE’s developmental territory NXT, on February 13, but didn’t get a chance to wrestle. Sami made his in-ring debut at a live event on March 7 in Tampa, Florida for a tag team match under his real name Rami Sebei. But eventually he settled on the ring name Sami Zayn. His first television debut was made on the May 22 episode of NXT. In the show he defeated Curt Hawkins in the opening match and later that day he challenged and defeated Antonio Cesaro as well. In the year 2014, June, Zayn started a fight with Tyson Kidd as Kidd left him during their match against NXT Tag Team Champions the Ascension. After defeating Justin Gabriel, both Kidd and Gabriel attacked Zayn, who was saved by NXT champion Adrian Neville, who was also Zayn’s friend. Later on, Zayn defeated Kidd twice, once in a singles match and the other in a tag match. Neville and Zayn’s friendship were at a stake when at NXT Takeover: Fatal 4-Way match Zayn nearly won the championship, but Neville stopped him by dragging out the referee of the ring to retain his title. At NXT Takeover: R Evolution match on 11th December, Zayn defeated Neville and took the revenge and was applauded by many NXT wrestlers, including Neville himself and Kevin Owens (the former Kevin Steen). But Owens ended the show by power bombing Zayn. On the January 14, 2015 episode, Zayn was again attacked post-match by Owens. After that Zayn demanded a match against Owens by putting the title at stake. NXT Takeover: Rival match was set for the two but Owens captured the title from Zayn by power bombing him five times.

On the episode of August 20 of SmackDown Live, Zayn joined forces with Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. On March 8, at Elimination Chamber Zayn, Nakamura, and Cesaro defeated Braun Strowman in a 3-on-1 handicap match to win the Intercontinental Championship. At Clash of Champions on September 27, Zayn fought against Hardy and AJ Styles in a triple threat ladder match to claim the Intercontinental Championship by handcuffing both of them with the ladders. On the episode 2nd November of SmackDown, Hardy was defeated by Zayn and the title was retained. In the month of October, Zayn entered the King of the Ring tournament and Rey Mysterio was defeated by him in the first round. On the November 26 episode of SmackDown, Zayn would compete in a battle royal to determine his number one contender ship for the Universal Championship, last eliminating Jeff Hardy to win the match. On the episode of 3rd December of SmackDown, Zayn would face Roman Reigns, the champion, for the title, but lost in 15 seconds as Brock Lesnar attacked him before the match. On the February 18 episode of SmackDown, Shinsuke Nakamura was defeated by Sami Zayn and Zayn won the Intercontinental Championship for the third time in his career. On the March 4 episode of SmackDown, Zayn lost his title to Ricochet.

After Zayn felt that he had lost respect and credibility in the locker room, starting on the April 22 episode of SmackDown, Zayn wanted to seek favor with The Bloodline, the stable that led by Roman Reigns. On the May 27 episode of SmackDown, after he helped the group on a couple of occasions, Zayn was given the title as “Honorary Uce” and became a member of the group. In the following weeks, the tensions between Zayn and Jey Uso, another member of The Bloodline, escalated because Jey did not trust Zayn, and they constantly argued. At Survivor Series Wargames, Zayn, with the help of The Bloodline, defeated the team of Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, and The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Butch, and Ridge Holland) in a Wargames match. After the match, as Zayn showed his loyalty to the stable by delivering a low-blow to Owens, Jey finally accepted Zayn as part of The Bloodline.

Friendship with Kevin Owens

Both Zayn and Owens started their career on the Canadian independent circuit, and they were made to fight against each other from early on in their careers. Their earliest matches took place in 2003, and the two ended up competing for the IWS (International Wrestling Syndicate) World Heavyweight Championship in the year 2004. The feud or partnership between the two has expanded a couple of decades and various promotions. The two were made to face or team with each other in promotions like Combat Zone Wrestling, Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and CHIKARA, before making it to WWE. Owens has said that Zayn is one of the best professional wrestlers on the planet. In spite of their differences, Zayn was advised by Owens to get out of The Bloodline before he gets betrayal from them.

Zayn’s love for Owens has played into the brilliant War Games match at Survivor Series. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are not those typical WWE superstars what most fans would associate with. established themselves in key spots on the card. Through the course of their careers, they have both teamed with and fought against each other. They both come from Quebec, and as a result their friendship has lasted a long time and been through the bingo halls on the indies to the packed stadiums of WrestleMania. The friendship and rivalry between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have managed to help in multiple promotions and over many different years. The pair has managed to somehow make things different and entertaining as well every single time.

Among the most renowned achievements, Zayn is a 2-time IWS World Heavyweight Champion, a 2-time PWG World Champion, and a 5-time POW World Tag Team Champion. Zayn is also a      1-time ROH World Television Champion and a 1-time ROH World Tag Team Champion.

Signature Moves

There are many moves that Zayn uses to tackle his opponents, but some of them are often uses by him. Like Helluva Kick, when he has to take out an opponent, very few things are such effective as a running kick to the face. Sami Zayn has a lot of signature moves, but when he wants to finish someone off, he always chooses the Helluva Kick. Another one is the Barricade Moon Sault. This is a move that is a regular weapon in his arsenal after he moved from NXT to the main roster in 2016. The Suicide Dive Tornado DDT is another masterpiece of Zayn. This is a move that few wrestlers do and Sami Zayn is one of them. When his opponent is in the right position, he takes a running dive through the corner ring ropes and into a tornado DDT. The Rolling Arm Drag is one of the best moves that Zayn uses frequently. Arm drags are common in many wrestlers’ move sets, but each wrestler’s performance with this move is based on their personality.

The Blue Thunder bomb is perhaps Sami Zayn’s most beautiful signature move, a belly-to-back spinning powerbomb full of frenetic energy which ends in a pin position.
