Nguyen Thị Thiên Thanh (born on 24th October 1981) is an American TV and social media celebrity who goes by the stage names Tila Tequila, Tila Nguyen, Miss Tila, and Tornado Thien. Owing to her immense success as the “Queen of MySpace,” she has been a subject of discussion over the years. She is also a TV personality, best known for hosting “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila,” a bisexual-themed dating show that aired on MTV in 2007. Tila Tequila has also dabbled in singing and writing. 

Early life 

Until she was 8 years old, the popular singer was raised in a strict gated Buddhist culture. Her childhood was filled with drama, including the use of addictive drugs at the age of 11 and the association with violent people in the neighborhood. 

She started drinking at the age of 13 and was a huge fan of nightclubs. She would frequently use her sister’s credentials to gain access to clubs back then. While she was 14, she was sent to a boarding school for a few months. She had her first tattoo at 15 and started smoking before fleeing to New York City at 16.

Her friends gave her the nickname “Tila Tequila.” In 2000, she graduated from Alief Hastings High School and relocated to Los Angeles the next year. She went to college as well but fell out before finishing to follow her dream.

Tila’s career started while she was nineteen years old, as she was spotted by a Playboy scout at the Sharpstown Mall and allowed to pose naked for the magazine. She took a test shoot before relocating to Southern California, where she was named Playboy’s Cybergirl of the Week on the 22nd of April 2002, and the very first Asian Cyber Girl of the Month shortly later. There were a few more pictorials for the publication after that.

At the age of 20, she decided to pursue her passion for rock music and began searching for bands that would accept her. She later formed Beyond Betty Jean, a band in which she was the lead singer and songwriter. Beyond Betty Jean finally broke up, and Tila began practicing in recording studios and writing music to hone her vocal abilities. She later became the lead singer of Jealousy, a band that only released a few songs online before disbanding. She appeared on VH1’s Surviving Nugent in 2003, a reality show in which contestants were expected to undergo compromising challenges and stunts for rocker Ted Nugent.

Her prominence grew as a result of her involvement in the import racing circuit. She has appeared on the cover of Import Tuner magazine, at car shows like Hot Import Nights, and even in the video game Street Racing Syndicate. After being kicked off of Friendster several times, Tila Tequila entered Myspace in the fall of 2003.

Tila last appeared in a tv show in 2015, while she was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother. Her fans have been debating what happened to their star queen ever since. 

The singer is noted for her outspoken attitude and willingness to speak her mind. She has been chastised on several occasions as a result of her divisive comments and social media posts.

The celebrity made numerous remarks on her social media pages in December 2013 endorsing Hitler and antisemitism. And during the 2016 election, she publicly stated her preference for Donald Trump.

Afterward in that year, during an event commemorating Trump’s victory, the notorious celebrity shared a photo of a National Socialism salute. Her Twitter account was suspended as a result.

On March 7, 2012, it was announced that Tila Nguyen had decided to enter rehab after allegedly “almost dying” after attempting suicide by overdosing on pills. She was hospitalized due to a brain condition as a result of the incident. Tequila’s rehab program ended on the 5th of April 2012.

What is Tila Tequila up to these days?

Tila has changed her name once more, this time to Tornado Thien. Although she has not been involved on Instagram since 2018, she still updates her YouTube account, The Lord Your Righteousness, daily. 

That is true, the former free-spirited bisexual babe converted to Evangelical Christianity. She is a mother with primary physical custody of her 6-year-old daughter Isabella while she’s not preaching fire-and-brimstone sermons or attempting to persuade us that the world is flat. 

That’s not to suggest she’s given up on her dream of being a singer. In 2019, she started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for a gospel album. (She only came close to reaching her $30,000 goal.)
