Give Your Body a Fresh Start With This 5-day Detox Plan

Have you been lazing around on the couch, binging on snacks and fried food during the lockdown, while watching your favourite show on Netflix? Rings a bell?

Well, this blog is just for you! How about a little detox for your entire body to get your energy levels high?

A Detox Diet Plan centres on purifying the body from contaminants accumulated from the foods and beverages people eat daily, such as unhealthy foods, refined sugars, carbonated beverages, alcohol, and tobacco, among others. To remain fit, it is important to detox the body for improved health and wellbeing.

Follow this diet and feel fresher than ever at the end of it. 

Day 1

· Breakfast –

Start your day with some fresh Aloe Vera juice, apples, and coconut water. You can also choose from fresh vegetable juices or smoothies to begin your day, from the list: 

  1. Carrot
  2. Beetroot
  3. Celery
  4. Mint
  5. Spinach

For an additional fibre and energy boost, add a tablespoon of chia seeds to your juice/smoothie. 

· Lunch –

Vegetables, uncooked or slightly boiled, with a range of seasonal, ideally organic vegetables. Choose from:

  1. Mushrooms
  2. Broccoli
  3. Cabbage
  4. Pumpkin
  5. Carrots
  6. Onion 
  7. Capsicums

· Evening Snack –

You can drink herbal tea, lemon water (with no sugar), or fresh coconut water. You can also mix some nuts and seeds for a healthy snack. Or you can eat fruits with low GI (glucose index) such as strawberries, apricots, etc. 

· Dinner –

Keep your dinner light with salads or soups. We suggest cucumber salad and broccoli soup. Before going to sleep, drink Triphala water (1 teaspoon Triphala powder and warm water).

Day 2

· Breakfast –

Since aloe Vera has digestive benefits and helps with constipation, drinking aloe Vera juice with warm water is an ideal way to begin your day with. Then some papaya, apples, and fresh coconut water. If you don’t want to have fruits, you can go to the vegetable smoothie/juice mentioned previously. At least two hours before you have your lunch, drink Amla juice with warm water. 

· Lunch –

For lunch, you can opt for boiled veggies, with quinoa and baby spinach salad. Or, you can also go for boiled beans and tomato with oregano seasonings. Drink lemon water (without sugar) 2-3 hours after lunch; it helps in better digestion of the food and weight loss. 

· Evening Snack –

Fruits with a lower glucose index are best for evening snacks, such as strawberries. You can also drink chamomile tea, green tea, and ginger tea.

· Dinner –

Eat vegetable stew made with stir-fried bell peppers or capsicums and broccoli, prepared with extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, and chopped garlic. Alternatively, you can have cucumber salad and soup (preferably clear veg soup). Drink Triphala water before going to bed.

Day 3

· Breakfast –

Start your day with aloe Vera and wheatgrass juice with warm water, followed by a fruit salad made with yoghurt, fresh fruits, chia seeds, some nuts, and honey, if desired. Drink amla juice with warm water or fresh coconut juice, 2-2.5 hours before lunch. 

· Lunch –

Have Oats and a curd smoothie with some berries. Or, you can go for lentil (dal) and vegetable stew. Lentils are usually preferred in almost every Indian household because it is rich in vitamins and is very good for cholesterol control. 

· Evening Snack –

Drink green tea and almonds as your evening snack. Or you can have a trail mix of nuts and seeds, such as walnuts and almonds with pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, and melon seeds. 

· Dinner –

Radish/raw papaya, carrot, and lettuce salad tossed in olive oil, and some lemon juice drizzled on top. Also, drink 250ml barley water. Before going to bed, drink Triphala water.

Day 4

· Breakfast –

Start your day with lemon water or aloe Vera juice and wheatgrass juice in warm water. You can have a Strawberry and Pineapple detox smoothie or Coconut and Banana power smoothie, mixed with some chia seeds, and honey if desired. You can also add nuts if you like. Drink a cucumber and cinnamon cooling drink and an apple, at least 2-2.5 hours before lunch.

· Lunch –

Grilled vegetables with yoghurts or vegetable stew with quinoa or amaranth (1 cup). Amarath is rich in fibre and vitamin C, therefore, it helps in boosting immunity. It is also gluten-free.  

· Evening snack –

Cut up your favourite fruits, but keep the choice between low GI fruits such as apricots, guava, pear, orange, strawberries, peach, and plums. 

· Dinner –

Lentil and vegetable stew or lettuce and cucumber salad with one bowl of cabbage and spring onion soup. Drink Triphala water before sleeping.

Day 5

· Breakfast –

Start your day with aloe vera and wheatgrass juice with warm water. You can also have lemon water if you would like. Then you can drink a cucumber cinnamon cooling drink with apples. Or you can also go for a vegetable smoothie or juice, with chia seeds and honey, if desired. Drink amla juice with warm water, at least 2-2.5 hours before lunch. 

· Lunch –

Steamed vegetables teamed with fresh herbs like mint or basil, with some extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, and crushed pumpkin seeds. You can eat it with brown rice and almonds. Alternatively, if you don’t want the fuss of cooking, you can also have a Strawberry and Pineapple detox smoothie.

· Evening Snack –

Nuts and seeds with honey, if needed. Also, herbal teas such as ginger tea or peppermint tea.

· Dinner –

You can simply have a lemon and coriander soup for dinner. Fresh rocket leaf salad with capsicums, mushrooms, and onions, topped with sunflower seeds, olive oil, lemon juice, and some fresh herbs. Drink Triphala water before bedtime.

Important Tips

· Drink water 

Drinking plenty of water has been shown to boost metabolic rate, allowing you to burn more calories. In reality, numerous people drink detox water to help them get rid of impurities, raise their levels of energy, boost metabolism, and lose weight faster. 

· Work out 

Sure, diet is important when it comes to losing weight, but doing a few stretches in the morning and regular physical activity will help you lose weight and heal faster. The best part is that you don’t have to go to the fitness centre every other day to work up a sweat. Yoga is an ideal way to detoxify the body effectively, relieve stress, and enhance general health and well-being.

· Adequate amount of sleep 

Getting enough sleep is proven you reduce stress and irritability in people. It is essential in the detoxing process. Hence, make sure you are getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night.
