Bernd Leno is a German footballer, and he was born on 4 March 1992. Leno was born in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany. He plays for Bayer Leverkusen and the German national football team as a goalkeeper. Germany is known to have many world-class goalkeepers and Leno is one of the amazing talents from the country who has impressed everyone with his consistency and reliability.

Bernd Leno started his football career in the year 2009. Initially he joined the youth team at SV Germania Bietigheim, and he was one of the most consistent goalkeepers around.

He has been a hard- working player and because of his talent, he grew quickly in the game. He made it to the Germany Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, and Under-21 teams. In May 2011, Leno began his senior career by signing a contract with VfB Stuttgart.

In October 2015, Bernd Leno got a golden chance in German national team for the qualifiers of Euro 2016. In May 2016, Leno made his international debut for Germany during a friendly match against Slovakia. Bernd Leno conceded two goals till the 46th minute and later he was substituted by Marc-André ter Stegen. Germany lost this match by 1-3

Bernd Leno grew up in the small town of Bietigheim-Bissingen in south Germany with his brother. His town is in proximity to Stuttgart.

His near ones who have seen Leno in his childhood years, describe him as very active kid who was always full of energy. As per Leno, his whole family loved football. Leno also said once about love for football.

Football was very important for my family, for my brother and for me it was our life. We always wanted to play football, to have the ball next to us. Back then, every toy was football.”

In his childhood years, Leno loved to play football with his friends in local games, especially in “bad pitches” which of course didn’t matter to him because of his love for the game.  It is being said that even at the age of 6, Leno was quite passionate and sincere for football.

When Leno was around 11 years old, he applied to join the VfB Stuttgart youth team and was selected to attend the trials. He was one of the 200 young players who were shortlisted to attend the trials in batches.

Later, after convincing the coaches, Leno was one of the six players who were selected by VfB Stuttgart. At that time as well, Leno continued as a midfielder.

Bernd Leno started dating Sophie Christin in the year 2015.

Leno’s girlfriend, Sophie is a marketing student who also works on some modelling assignments as a hobby. Sophie is a German and Czech descent and was born on 17th February 1997. She loves traveling which is quite visible through her social media posts of the different cities and countries she has visited like Spain, Italy, Greece, France, and recently Dubai. Sophie is also a translator and speaks German and Czech language fluently. She also loves animals and works as an activist for the welfare of animals.

Bernd Leno dated Sophie for 4 years before deciding to take the next big step for their relationship. On 19th June 2019, Leno proposed Sophie for marriage to which she eventually and happily said Yes!

The beautiful couple took their wedding vows on 11th August 2020, almost a year after the proposal.

Right now, Leno and Sophie are happily married, and they have also adopted two beautiful dogs named Lucy and Poppy. For her love for animals especially dogs, Sophie works with a foundation named Wild at Heart. The foundation helps to rescue the estranged dogs and finds suitable homes for them. Sophie has adopted her dog Poppy from them. Currently, Leno and Sophie are living contently in their beautiful home in London together.

Bernd Leno started his career in football as a youth player from SV Germania Bietigheim. He started playing as a midfielder. He worked hard on his skills while spending his time with the club.

When at the age of 11, Leno successfully passed the trial of VfB Stuttgart and joined its Youth team, he became more serious for his game and realized his true potential of being a goalkeeper and therefore quit the position of a midfielder. With time and his talent, he got promoted as the senior member of the team.

On 10th August 2011, he got chance to join Bayer Leverkusen for four months. He debuted against Werder Bremen while playing for this club. He kept a clean sheet in his first three matches with his remarkable performance in Bundesliga.

Bernd Leno also played in 2011-12 UEFA Champions’ League group and became the youngest player to ever play in stage match against Chelsea.

Watching his wonderful performance, the Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen club kept Leno with them until 2017. He continued playing excellently for the club till he completed his 300th appearance for the club. Finally on 19th June 2018, Leno decided to move to the Premier League club Arsenal for 22.5 million euros.

Bernd Leno debuted in 4-2 victory against the Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League for Arsenal club. He was soon included in the top three goalkeepers of the club because of his fabulous consistent performance.

In the year Oct-2015, Leno debuted as a senior player in the Germany team against the Republic of Ireland and Georgia. Later, Leno also played in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

While Bernd Leno was playing, he was part of some great teams who went on winning some major championships including 1 UEFA European Uner-17 Championship which was held in the year 2009 and 1 FIFA Confederations Cup which was help in the year 2017.

There is also a controversy associated with Bernd Leno. In the year 2019, he made a controversial statement upon the selection of Europa League final match venue. As per him, the venue selection was a scandal because the venue was decided amidst of political hostilities between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

He is also active on Instagram with his handle name @berndleno1 and 907k followers. His posts on Instagram are mostly of football and family. He usually doesn’t post much but when he does, it’s either about a football game, a training session, or pictures with his beautiful wife.  

However, during pandemic and quarantine, when Leno was away from the field, he was more active on Instagram sharing posts or videos about his daily life and routine at home.  Once, He posted a picture of himself at the backyard of his home, reading a book with a caption saying, “with a super exciting book, you can beat quarantine time. #stayathome”. He also shared another picture with his girlfriend with a caption as, “My partner in quarantine #stayathome.”

It was evident from the pictures he posted during pandemic that he was dedicated towards his game as he had turned his backyard into his home office and did practice there with the help of his family.
